One Year, 100 Posts

I made my first post on this blog, "Philosophy as Science Fiction; Science Fiction as Philosophy," exactly one year ago today.  A few weeks ago I noticed that I was getting close to my 100th post, so I thought I might engineer an auspicious convergence of my one year blog-iversary and my 100th post!

I also thought this might be a good chance to do some meta-blogging and to reflect on my experience of the past year.

  • Apparently I have averaged one post about every 3.65 days.
  • I have written on everything from contemporary political issues to diversity in science fiction and philosophy (including Puppy-gate), from random thoughts to reflections on living in the American Southeast.  And of course there have been a lot of book reviews and reviews of movies and TV.
  • What are my favorite posts?  See the My Favorite Posts page to find out!
  • According to my Blogger stats (which may or may not be reliable), this blog has been viewed 25,566 times and views on individual posts range from 20 on "Book Reviews Coming Soon!" to 1,856 on "Three Uses of Philosophy" (a link to the latter appeared in the "Heap of Links" on The Daily Nous).  Most views are from the United States (my home country), but the blog has had views from all over the world.
  • I've had interesting conversations with people here, both people I know from other aspects of my life and people I've met through this blog.  Some readers have blogs of their own, which you can see on the right side of this page under "Blogs I Like."
  • In my "42nd Post Spectacular" I said that I had learned that blogging is fun.  It still is.  In the last year writing this blog has become my favorite hobby -- after reading science fiction, that is!
  • I hope to continue engaging in this little hobby for awhile.  In the immediate future, I might produce some "best of 2015" lists.  Will my favorite SF novel of the year be Kim Stanley Robinson's Aurora?  Spoiler alert: probably.  Will my favorite movie of 2015 be Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Mad Max: Fury Road, or something else?  I haven't decided yet, so I'll find out when you do!
  • I also keep a list of ideas for future posts, which so far include reflections on whether "political correctness" has "run amok," why I hope our descendants will think we're uncivilized, whether we have to agree to get along, post-scarcity SF, the value of utopia, and a defense of philosophical entanglements with popular culture (of the kind on this blog).  And of course the reviews will keep coming, too!

I thank you, dear readers, for joining me, whether this is your first visit or whether you've been reading all year.  I hope to see you around in the future!
